You close the curtain. You are a busy person. You do not have time for nonsense like omens.

You grab your coffee and head out the side door to avoid the porch. Halfway down the block, the sidewalk is blocked by a tall wooden ladder leaning against a building. There's just enough room to walk under it.

Across the street is a small shop you've never noticed. The sign just says OPEN in hand-painted letters, and there's a black cat sitting in the window. The same black cat.
