The only way to make candles cooler for Halloween? It isn't spooky designs, seasonal wax colors, or even overloading them with scents.
It’s changing the color of the flame.
And lucky for us, Avauré Candles has figured out exactly how to do that, making any of their candle varieties a perfect small business purchase for spooky season.
Not familiar with Avauré Candles yet? Allow me to introduce you today, then I’ll give you three decorating ideas for Halloween!
About Avauré Candles
The company story started back in November 2020. As Diwali approached, founder Khushbu found her plans for celebrating the holiday changed by the pandemic. She and a relative held a virtual celebration instead, during which Khushbu’s relative gave her a tour of their beautifully decorated home.
Included in that decor? Colored tealight candles that caught her eye and flames that looked colored themselves.
If you are not familiar, Diwali is the Hindu festival of lights generally lasting 5-6 days. During this time, celebrants illuminate their home with diyas (oil lamps), candles, and lanterns to symbolize and celebrate a spiritual victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance.
The next year as Diwali approached, Khushbu looked for candles with colored flames, like she remembered from the previous year, but came up short. She soon discovered those colored flames she thought she’d seen were actually just battery-powered colored LED candles.
But she couldn’t get the idea out of her head, so using her chemistry degree and professional background in research and development for two of the largest consumer good companies, Khushbu set out to recreate the version of the candle she thought she saw, which brough to life Avauré!
They now sell pillar and taper candles with green or pink flames, which are powered by naturally occurring minerals. You can learn more over on their FAQ page.
These candles are great, of course, for any spot you want to enjoy them!
But given that we do Halloween all year long around here, I thought I’d put together three decor vignettes to get you inspired, including:
What you need to build each one, in your own theme
How to put it all together
Where to display it in your home (we need clearance for those gorgeous tapers!)
Beetlejuice Vignette
Given the original green flame, dubbed the Aurora, I knew we needed to revisit “Beetlejuice” again for this project! I put together a simple vignette on a serving tray.
What you need:
Serving tray
2 candle holders of varying height
A spooky book
A mason jar or small vase
Flowers in a coordinating color
2 Aurora taper candles from Avauré
Matches or a stick lighter
How to build it:
There are always two things I look at when building a decor vignette: heights and textures. You want variety in both, and with this look I think we acheive that perfectly!
Start with any Halloween serving tray you might have. I’m using my sandworm gift wrap tray I made and shared on Patreon exclusively.
Place two candle holders (whatever you have on hand is perfect) of varying heights on the tray, and add your Avauré Aurora taper candles.
Grab some flowers in a coordinating color, and cut them down to fit inside a small mason jar or vase. We want something shorter than the candle holders so they remain the start of the show here. Pro tip: remove any leaves from the stems to give your flowers a longer life and prevent bacteria from growing in the water.
Finally, add in a spooky book! I chose the “Handbook for the Recently Deceased”…which is a silly choice since all the pages are blank. I wonder why…?
Light your taper candles for up to one hour at a time (recommended burn time from Avauré) and enjoy all spooky season!
Where to display it:
Kitchen: use it as a centerpiece on your kitchen table or a large island
Dining room: display it on a sideboard to add spooky ambiance
Entry way: display it on a table to welcome guests to your haunted home
Spirit Board Vignette
I love any excuse to bust out my vintage Ouija board as decor, and the pink flamed Camellia tapers from Avauré were no exception.
What you need:
Spirit board and planchette
Table cloth or fabric
2 - 3 pieces of related spiritualist/witchy decor
Tarot cards (optional)
2 metal candlestick holders
2 Camellia taper candles from Avauré
Matches or a stick lighter
How to build it:
Start by placing your table cloth or fabric on your surface. You can either cover the entire surface with the fabric as a table cloth or fold it and use it like a table runner.
You can opt to prop up the spirit board with a cookbook holder or rest it against a wall, as I did.
Then we layer in the decor. Mine included a palmistry hand, an apothecary bottle, and a lighted crystal ball I placed on a candle holder to vary the height of my items. Then I just tucked in the tarot cards, planchette, and candle itself.
Light your taper candles for up to one hour at a time (recommended burn time from Avauré) and enjoy for a little magical ambiance whenever you need it!
Where to display it:
Dining room: create this display as a centerpiece on your dining table for a Halloween party
Library or office: if you have bookshelves with enough ceiling clearance, this could be a fun and unique piece of decor for the top of the shelf
Entry way: display it on a table to welcome guests to your haunted home
Pinkoween Candy Board Vignette
Candy boards 🤝 Pinkoween. I’m combining two of my favorite Halloween trends with this and making my Avauré pillar candles the stars of the show.
What you need:
Large Halloween plate or serving tray
3-5 Halloween serving vessels, such as bowls or glasses (get creative!)
1-3 wrapped candies
1-2 chocolate candies
1-2 sour or fruit candies
Cookies and/or bite-size brownies decorated for Halloween
Halloween candlestick holders
2 Camellia taper candles from Avauré
Matches or a stick lighter
How to build it:
I love creating candy boards, and my method is pretty easy. For this one, I started by placing the center bowl full of Halloween Oreos and the two glass jack-o-lantern candlestick holders as the featured pieces.
Next I added larger loose items, like the Halloween cookies and bite-size brownies.
Third, I worked in the small bowls for loose candy, then filled in remaining spots with wrapped candies.
I had some fun containers that didn’t quite make it onto the board, so I gathered them around the board, along with some paper cups for party guests to serve themselves.
When your board is full, light your taper candles for up to one hour at a time (recommended burn time from Avauré) and enjoy during a Halloween party or spooky movie night!
Where to display it:
Kitchen: place this beauty on your kitchen table or island for any Halloween party and allow guests to graze on their favorite tricks and treats all night
Entry way: do the same in your entry way, but place it out AFTER your guests arrive and add small snack bags so they can make themselves a treat bag before leaving
Patio table: if the weather is nice for a Halloween gathering, consider placing this outside near a bonfire so guests can graze on sweets as they please
Which vignette is your favorite?
