Why I'm Not Sad Halloween Season is Over

Another Halloween has come and gone. The candy has been passed out, the parties held, the jack-o-lanterns carved and the costumes worn. It's the most miserable time of the year...

Just like you, I have the Halloween blues. Each season seems to fly by faster than the last, and there's never enough time to do all the fun things I plan.

But, here's the thing: I'm not sad Halloween is over.

Of course not, Miranda - you celebrate Halloween all year! You might be saying.

And you wouldn't be wrong, my spooky little friend. Celebrating Halloween all year long on my blog is definitely a cure for the post-Halloween blues.

But when it's time to pack up the decor and trash the rotting pumpkins, I don't feel sad. I feel happy.

Here's why I'm not sad Halloween is over:

I have new Halloween memories to enjoy.

Each Halloween season brings a new round of fun to be had with my family and friends. No two seasons have ever been the same, and for that, I am grateful because it means I walk away from every Halloween with at least one new memory.

When I was little, a lot of those included trick-or-treating fun or the time I built a graveyard in the front yard on Halloween day.

Some of my recent favorite memories have been working on my witch hat for my 2015 party, enjoying Dead Air's quirky Halloween tunes over October dinners with my parents, and finding Halloween goodies on my shopping escapades.

I like having a designated time to celebrate Halloween.

Yup, I'll say it: I like taking down my Halloween decorations each year after October 31st. Sure, there are a few items I leave out all year long...and my bedroom will stay spooky with the makeover I gave it earlier this year...but overall, I like packing Halloween away until next year.

I guess you could call me a holiday purist, but I like having a designated time to celebrate each one. Growing up, my mom always decorated a bit for each holiday throughout the year so for me, it's part of my Halloween traditions.

But I also like it as a way to mark time as it passes. Not having my Halloween decor out all year long makes each season feel a bit more special than the rest of the year.

I get to start planning for next year!

This reason might be my favorite one of all. Once Halloween passes and we're in the dreary days of early November, life can feel a little bleak. But that's usually when I flip to the next page in my party notebook and start jotting down ideas for next year's party.

Now that I have a year-round Halloween blog too, it's a good time to assess what worked, what didn't and figure out how I want to do things differently — or bigger! — the following year.

Planning for Halloween never really stops in my world.

What was your favorite part of Halloween this year?

I'd love to hear from you or hear why you aren't sad Halloween is over. I hope this season was your spookiest yet!
