Did you know the Monster Cereals turned 50 in 2021? And that they weren’t created in Halloween season?
General Mills debuted Count Chocula (chocolate) and Frankenberry (strawberry) in March 1971, and both characters were inspired by classic horror movie hosts. Boo Berry (blueberry) joined the crew in December 1972.
Plus the two other Monster Cereals that have popped in and out of the line-up over the years: Frute Brute (cherry) and Yummy Mummy (orange).
I celebrated the 50th anniversary in last year's magazine with a fun recipe I've been wanting to try: cereal milk lattes.
You could do this with any cereal of your choice (I think the Cap'n Crunch that turns your milk green could be fun!), but we'll stick with the three Monster Cereals you can find annually.
Here's how to make your own at home.

Monster Cereal Fun Facts
I love learning about the Monster Cereals, so here are a few things you may not have known about them:
Boo Berry was the first-ever blueberry flavored cereal
Frute Brute (then Fruit Brute) debuted in 1974, was available until 1982, and has returned in 2022
Yummy Mummy debuted in 1988 and was available until 1994
All five flavors have featured the same cereal shape – early on, it was a circle with a cross in the middle and today, it’s a ghost
2013 was the first – and only – time all five Monster Cereals have been available at the same time
Until 2009, Monster Cereals were available year-round – now they only appear during Halloween season
Which Monster Cereal latte will you try?
Admittedly, Count Chocula was my favorite when I made these. Let me know which one is your fave in the comments!
