In an unassuming warehouse park just 90 minutes southwest of my new spooky bungalow in Minneapolis is Halloween costume heaven.
Aisles upon aisles of Halloween costumes, accessories, and décor. A towering wall full of thousands of costumes. And just about the coolest office space I’ve ever seen.
Welcome to the home of HalloweenCostumes.com.
In the summer of 2023 and again this fall, they were kind enough to invite me down for a visit to see what the inside of the largest online-only retailer of costumes in the world looks like. (Spoiler: it’s a heck of a lot more impressive than any pop-up store you’ll visit.)
Now you likely know that I am usually Team Create Your Own when it comes to costumes, but there are a few reasons I love having HalloweenCostumes.com in my back pocket:
They sell costumes AND décor, all year long.
They have more than 10,000 costume options on their site—including 3,500 exclusives (look for the Made By Us tag on images!).
And, best of all, they are the most size-inclusive costume company I’ve found in my nearly nine years of Halloween content creation, with select costumes available in up to 8X
One more thing I love: their origin story.
HalloweenCostumes.com is truly a family company. Back in 1992, sisters Julie and Lisa Fallenstein decided to take costumes their mother, Jenice, had made and rent them out of their garage. The idea was a success in the neighborhood and grew into a shop called Costumes Galore. Then in 2001, dad Tom (who is the CEO) built a website for the shop, and the Internet did its thing. Read more about their story.
Now the company employs hundreds of people full-time year-round and welcomes thousands of seasonal staff to pack orders leading up to Halloween.
Behind the scenes at Halloween Costumes.com
It isn’t every day you get to see how Halloween magic is made! Come with me for a tour through the HalloweenCostumes.com warehouse.
Welcome to Headquarters!
HalloweenCostumes.com’s parent company is Fun.com. Their headquarters is located in Mankato, Minnesota, just 90 minutes from where I live now!
Ghosts of Halloween Past
The company was founded by the Fallenstein family, who always had handmade costumes growing up and started renting them out of their garage. Today, their offices feature several childhood costumes + photos!
Wall of Costumes
Ever wondered what 10,000 Halloween costumes looks like? Here you go! Every single look made by and offered on HalloweenCostumes.com can be found on this wall. It’s impressive in person.
Made by Us is a Must
In addition to carrying the most popular costumes, HalloweenCostumes.com also has 3,500 options that are exclusive to their site. Look for the Made By Us logo online for designs, included licensed characters, you’ll only find on their site.
Miles of Halloween
There are dozens and dozens of aisles in the HalloweenCostumes.com warehouse. My best guess? You’d clock a solid 2+ miles if you walked up and down every row.
Organizing Orders
While related items and sizes might be stocked in the same aisle, they’re often spaced apart so staff can put together orders without getting in each other’s way. So smart!
Scavenger Hunt
When an order comes in, a staff member grabs a scanning gun, heads to the end of an aisle, and scans the barcode displayed. An order pops up on their scanning gun, and they’re off to grab all the items!
More Than Costumes
Their site isn’t just costumes — HalloweenCostumes.com also has tons of affordable decor, like these skulls. See some of my favorite picks.
Their parent site, Fun.com, even has some great horror apparel and accessories!
Looking for costume ideas?
I’ve been working with HalloweenCostumes.com for several seasons, and in my opinion they are THE superior pick for ready-made costume options.
