Inside Spooky Little Halloween—The Magazine 2024

This pink cover is something else. I picked this as my cover color this year purely because I'm a pink girlie (see the hair) and never expected it to be THE color of 2024.

But here we are! And I have to say it has been an absolutely delight opening Instagram and being smacked in the face with this bright ass pink as yet another friend shares their magazine arriving in the mail.

If you’ve seen this all over social media and wondering what the heck it is…you’ve found the right spot!

Hi, I’m Miranda and I’ve run Spooky Little Halloween for nine years. In 2021, I introduced a full size magazine and haven’t looked back.

In just four years, this project has grown from 24 to 64 pages. (And next year it’ll jump to 80!) Inside, you’ll find fun and spooky features on members of the Halloween community, pieces from fellow content creators, and a few returning favorites.

Let’s dive into the 2024 issue!

Inside Spooky Little Halloween—The Magazine 2024

My magazines are full color, and the full size issue (8.5 x 11 inches) this year is 64 pages that are saddle stitched. I do a gloss cover and pages, and the entire magazine is printed on 80-pound paper. No wafer-thin magazine pages here!

Inside, you’ll find 10 features for a bit of Halloween fun, from a visit to a new haunt to a cemetery picnic, Halloween hot spots in Chicago, and even a candy-colored cemetery photo essay.

If you don’t already know, my professional career started in journalism. I’ve worked for a couple local publications, but it’s been a blast to take these skills and apply them to my own project, from selling advertising to writing features…like this one about Anna Lensch from PetriCoffin.

I pulled this article last year in support of the writer’s strike, but I am thrilled to share this essential horror movie list my friend Matt created for me! I hope it’ll help fellow horror newbies get acquainted with the genre like it did for me.

Last year, a new immersive haunt opened at Mall of America, and I was thrilled to be part of its first year. I documented the entire thing and share photos from inside the haunt in this year’s magazine.

I was thrilled to welcome back Lori Castellon from Ghoul at Heart this year! She returned with another killer set of recipes to make a complete cemetery picnic…including that viral spooky boa tea!

Also returning for a fourth year: my 31 Days of Halloween calendar, smack dab in the middle of the issue! I love creating this every year.

Another returning contributor this year: Melissa España from Splash of Spooky! This year, she’s taking us on a trip to her favorite October haunts across Chicago.

I’ll forever be happy George Streicher popped up in my DMs in the summer of 2023 to put his project, Music of the Macabre, on my radar. I turned his episode of By Pumpkin’s Light into a Q&A.

My friend Liz contributed an absolutely stunning photo essay of a local cemetery. These pages are some serious eye candy.

My favorite things returns for a fourth year as well! Every item on this list is something I have personally purchased from a small business since the start of the calendar year. I always love pulling this together.

And finally, we round things out with a feature on Lindsay Keating, the artist behind Cabinet of Curious Clay AND the creator of Darksome Art & Craft Market. She’s such a cool ghoul!
